Siemens supports the expansion of renewable energy in Treuchtlingen.

The experts from Siemens and the Feuchtwangen Campus are highlighting the potential for the expansion of renewable energy and thus paving the way for climate neutrality by 2035 for the city of Treuchtlingen.

The city of Treuchtlingen can cover a large part of its energy needs from local CO₂-free sources by 2035. This is the central statement of an energy utilization plan funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, which was created by experts from Siemens AG and the Feuchtwangen Campus, a branch of Ansbach University of Applied Sciences.

The experts conducted a detailed inventory of the current and future supply situation for electricity, heat, and fuels in the region. The study identified previously untapped potentials of various renewable energy sources for Treuchtlingen and the surrounding area and also examined the suitability of the city's power grid for their integration. Furthermore, concrete ways were shown how the transformation process towards decarbonizing the energy supply can succeed to the benefit of the city and its citizens.

'The city of Treuchtlingen and its surrounding districts offer great potential for the expansion of renewable energies, particularly photovoltaics and wind. This can largely cover not only the existing electricity consumption but also the future increasing electricity demand due to the electrification of the heating and mobility sectors. The focus is not only on the total amount of energy generated but also on the simultaneity of generation and consumption,' says Thomas Haupt, a research associate at the Feuchtwangen Campus.

Thus, the study confirms the goal of the city of Treuchtlingen to keep the value creation of renewable energy generation as much as possible in the region and to gradually reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
