MS Wissenschaft stops in the Nuremberg metropolitan region – Fraunhofer IIS with exhibit on board
The research vessel MS Wissenschaft is docking at various locations in the Nuremberg metropolitan region. On board is an exhibit from Fraunhofer IIS: “On the Web – How much energy does mobile Internet consume?”
At Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen and Nuremberg, researchers are working on ways to reduce the power consumption of our everyday digital infrastructure. This applies to the devices themselves, but also to the mobile networks that transmit the vast amounts of information. To this end, we are working on algorithms and techniques that, for example, temporarily put base stations into sleep mode so that they only consume energy when they are actually needed.
The Fraunhofer IIS exhibit at MS Wissenschaft was designed in collaboration with the Barkhausen Institute as part of the “6G Platform” project. The project coordinates scientific contributions and the participation of industry and society for future mobile communications standards in Germany.
