Siemens Gerätewerk Amberg awarded as excellent factory

Siemens Gerätewerk Amberg (GWA) has been awarded the Ludwig Erhard Prize in gold. On Friday, June 23, 2023, the head of GWA Matthias Kranz, businessman Christian Knigge and the head of the sister plant Cham Stefan Reindl accepted the award in the category "Large companies" at the award ceremony in Berlin. The jury praised the plant for its clear focus on customer expectations, a strong culture of performance and role models, and the consistent and diverse involvement of employees and interested parties in the strategy and its implementation. The conclusion of the judges: "Amberg equipment factory - a star in the Siemens group shines!"

The Siemens equipment factory in Amberg and its sister factory in Cham produce low-voltage switchgear for the world market. Low-voltage switchgear are the "hidden champions" of power distribution. Their task is to switch, protect, monitor and control industrial electricity consumers and without them all wheels would literally stand still. "Our customers expect the highest possible level of safety and reliability from our products," says plant manager Matthias Kranz. “To live up to this responsibility unconditionally is the claim that drives us to excellence every day. We are therefore particularly pleased about the recognition that we have been given by being awarded the Ludwig Erhard Prize. This award is due to all employees in the GWA team, who are always highly motivated and help with all their competence to satisfy the customers."

In order to be able to survive in an increasingly dynamic market environment, Siemens Gerätewerk Amberg relies on flexibility, digitization and automation of production, innovative technologies, sustainability and comprehensive competence initiatives that provide employees with the latest know-how through training and qualification measures. In the production process, great value is placed on a comprehensive planning and control system based on the Siemens Performance System and the EFQM quality management system. "This gives us orientation in our daily activities and consistently supports our strategic orientation and result-oriented implementation across all levels," says Kranz. “The EFQM system and the regular exchange within the Siemens manufacturing network helps us to actively shape the necessary transformation process and to take the needs of all interest groups into account. This means that we will continue to be a reliable partner for our employees, customers, suppliers, the people in the region and ultimately for society.”
